The Disaster Recovery Contractors Association (DRCA) Government Affairs Committee, chaired by John Marini, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Adjusters International, met last week to discuss the issues paramount to disaster recovery prior to the start of this year's Atlantic Hurricane Season. A non-profit trade association comprised of private sector companies, DRCA's vision is to bring "together leaders in the private and public sector through industry forums and activities that help advance leadership, and best practices that advance the emergency management system and improve America's ability to respond to and recover from natural and man-made disasters."
During this meeting, the Committee met with members of the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee and the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee. These committees are both working on bills which would reform the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act and have a significant impact on the private sector in disaster response.
The Committee also met with senior leadership from the National Association of Counties, the International Association of Emergency Managers, and the National Emergency Management Association, the top three national trade associations representing State & local emergency management officials. They discussed how DRCA can work more closely with these organizations on key policy issues and bills going forward, including the Senate Stafford Act Reform Legislation and the House Reauthorization Act of 2012.
